LOOK HAS HEAVY-DUTY CARGO TRAILERS READY FOR ANYTHING
Enclosed cargo trailers come in many shapes, sizes, and payload capacities. When you shop, it’s important to know what your priorities are, from lightweight flexibility, to interior cargo space, to the type of cargo you plan to haul, and where you plan to haul it.
When you need a heavy-duty trailer ready for tough cargo hauling, here’s what to look for.
First, look for all-tube mainframe construction. The frame is what holds the trailer—and therefore your cargo—together. All-tube construction is the most durable and rigid type of construction for trailers. Tube construction is stronger than other types because it contains more metal. Also, make sure the crossbeams are installed at the proper intervals. Closer intervals (16 inches on center rather than 24) provide a stronger supporting frame, sidewalls, and roof bows.
When you need a rugged trailer, torsion axles are preferable to leaf spring axles. They provide even wheel suspension for a smoother ride, reduce flex on rough and windy roads, and are less susceptible to corrosion. Torsion axles are standard on Look LXT custom cargo trailers.
Look for a screwless exterior and one-piece aluminum roof. Properly installed screwless exteriors expand and contract with the temperature changes, making them less likely to crack. They also stand up better to road vibration. Those cracks are not only unsightly, they weaken the exterior and open up places for water to seep in. A one-piece aluminum roof also helps keep out water.
When hauling over rough terrain, it’s especially important to choose a trailer with equipment that will keep your cargo locked in place. Look for D-rings and E-track as standard or available options so you can securely tie down your load. Also, make sure the ramp and ramp extension can handle your heavy cargo.
